Ojibwe Traditional Harvest Wild Rice

Leech Lake whole grain, wild rice from Northern Minnesota is hand harvested in the traditional manner in canoes by the Ojibwe Indians. The rice is wood parched to preserve it and helps produce the authentic, nutty flavor that has been harvested and parched by American Indians for centuries. Rinse rice in colander until water runs clear. Place the wild rice, water and salt in a 3 quart heavy sauce pan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to simmer and cover. Cook for approximately 25 minutes or until most of the liquid has absorbed. For softer rice and less texture, add 1/3 cup more water and extend cooking time to approximately 35 minutes. Drain excess water and serve or reserve for use in other recipes. Serves 4 to 6. Unfold product label for cooking preparation and instructions.
